The Internet supports a dog owner who refused to understand a woman’s allergy

Online commentators were stunned after a dog owner recounted a recent encounter at a pet-friendly restaurant.

In a viral Reddit post posted on r/AmITheA**hole, Redditor u/Unique_Clothes7984 (also known as the original poster, or OP) said they brought their dog together to eat, when confronted by a woman claiming to have a severe allergy.

Titled, “AITA for not leaving a restaurant I was in with my dog ​​because a lady was allergic to dogs?” The viral post has received nearly 9,000 votes and 1,800 comments in the last 11 hours.

u/Unique_Clothes7984 writes that they became regulars at a restaurant that allowed dogs inside (on leashes and with valid vaccination records), that they were enjoying a meal until they were interrupted by an unexpected request from another restaurant patron.

“A lady approached me and told me she was allergic to dogs, so if I don’t mind, I should sit down. [in] The outside area of ​​the restaurant,” the original poster wrote.

They continued, “I told her this was a pet friendly restaurant.” “She told me she was aware but nevertheless, since she is allergic, I should comply and get the dog outside.”

After initially refusing to leave the restaurant, the Redditor said the woman accused them of disrespect and threatened to call the police if they did not leave the restaurant with their dog.

“She said she was the one with a health problem so I’m the one who should make the sacrifice out of respect,” they wrote. “She started raising her tone of voice towards me and started threatening me that she would expel me and call the police with me.”

“Some other restaurant customers shared and told me I should just leave,” he continued. “Then I asked the waiter if I was supposed to leave and he said no… the lady called the restaurant manager… and he said the same thing.”

Although animals other than certain service animals are largely unwelcome in American restaurants, u/Unique_Clothes7984 explained in the comments section of the viral post that they are located in Europe.

While some countries prohibit the legal presence of animals in restaurants, others such as France, Italy and the Netherlands welcome their presence. In some cases, restaurants and other restaurants offer separate menus especially for dogs and other pets.

“I think some people are leaving their homes with the intention of starting a fight with people,” they commented. “This woman was completely inconsequential and should have left as soon as she saw the pet list, knowing she was allergic.”

Redditor u/TrustedTriangle added, garnered more than 3,600 votes: “You have full rights to dine at a pet-friendly restaurant. She walked into a restaurant knowing full well her own issues. She’s nothing but troublemakers”, garnering over 3,600 Voice.

In a pointed comment, which has garnered more than 1,000 votes, the original poster Redditor u/Fit-Bear emphasized that a woman’s allergy wasn’t a concern for her, especially at a pet-friendly establishment.

“Her sensitivity isn’t your problem, it’s hers,” they commented. “She chose to go to a pet-friendly restaurant and she can expect you to move in.”
