Test your internet speeds with Ookla Speedtest – Manila Bulletin

Test your internet speeds with Ookla Speedtest

The need for a faster internet connection at home continues to grow even as the country slowly emerges from the pandemic. This makes it even more important for consumers to ensure that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) deliver what they promise by using an unbiased third party service, such as Speedtest® from Ookla.

The Ookla Speedtest Awards, which recently named PLDT Home the fastest intercity internet service provider in the country, is the most respected online service of its kind. Very popular among regular consumers and IT professionals alike, it’s free, easy to use and has become an unbiased way to compare ISP speeds around the world.

Fast and easy to use

Regular internet testing ensures the user has optimum internet speeds for productive work online. However, some people use the service to spot connectivity issues at home or even to determine if they need a speed upgrade to keep up with their family’s growing connectivity needs.

To use Speedtest, just open your browser and visit www.speedtest.net. (There is also an app version for download on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Google Chrome, and Apple TV). Click the Go button for the service to connect to a server. In a few seconds, it will show the connection download speed, upload speed, and connection ping rate (which shows the ‘lag’ or reaction time of the connection). You can then instantly compare the result with the advertised speeds of the ISPs.

It is also advisable to take the test several times with different devices, and at different times of the day. Doing so allows the subscriber to see if there is a difference in speeds between two devices or if one of them has a connection problem. Network related activities such as routine service maintenance can also affect the results. However, if your download/upload speed seems accurate when using one device but pulls significantly once more devices are connected to the internet, there is a need to reduce the number of connected gadgets or bandwidth-hungry apps – or it may also be an ideal time to consider upgrading your provider Internet service.

When testing internet speeds, the user should keep in mind that since devices have different Wi-Fi capabilities, it is normal for different devices to record different download/upload speeds, even on the same connection. Also, the Wi-Fi router itself affects the test result, so users should ensure that it is set correctly and supports the full speed of the Internet service to get a more accurate result.

Internet Acceleration PH

As the average broadband speeds in the Philippines have seen consistently impressive growth in the past few years, PLDT has played a vital role in setting the standards for internet speeds in the country for the Filipino home.

Ookla numbers from June 2020 to June 2021 show that fixed broadband download speeds increased from 23.74Mbps to 66.55Mbps. The same improvement is seen in download speeds from 23.46Mbps to 66.86Mbps.

PLDT Home currently holds the record for being the fastest broadband network in the Philippines for the fourth year in a row based on the OoklaSpeedtest Q3-Q4 Awards 2021. In a recent Ookla report, PLDT showed maximum download speeds of 203.97Mbps and maximum upload speeds of 217.07Mbps – Or a speed score of 77.24. This is a significant jump from the carrier’s previous speed score of 27.28 in the second half of the previous year.

“We have been constantly expanding our network and upgrading our broadband speeds so that Filipinos can have better digital experiences to earn money, work and study from the comfort of their homes. Because fast internet has become an essential thing you can count on,” says Butch J Jimenez Jr., Senior Vice President and President of PLDT Home Business. Families to progress and live better.

The accelerated speeds of PLDT Home have helped make life easier for many Filipinos, especially during the pandemic, when the internet has become their primary way to connect with families, do remote education, work from home, and explore new income-earning opportunities online.
