I’ve been working with Shawn Hacker at Mini Storage on Wheels, an American Canyon moving/storage company, for several years.
Shawn’s product is containers – one size and one price. Its customers use its containers for transportation or for temporary storage. Shawn does what one of the major “pod” storage companies does – only 30% less and way less.

Shawn’s website was in dire need of an upgrade
Shawn is a very simple guy who keeps it simple, so I created a new website in Gutensite, an easy-to-use platform that includes tech support.
I wrote the copy and Sean took pictures of his containers. There’s nothing exciting about this stuff – it’s exactly what you’d expect. You get a pure 8 x 16 container for $180 a month.
Videos are a great way to share information and improve websites, so I wrote a small script and created an explainer video and uploaded it to the site. We focused on the basics: what we do, delivery, and price.

The new site is up and running
Shawn’s web traffic increased by over 22%. His revenue increased year/year by 15%.
But it takes more than a website. We wanted to take advantage of the great feedback Shawn gets on Yelp. We’ve created a flowery MailChimp email with a quick thank you note.
We’ve added some of his great testimonials as graphic elements/quotes, started sending them to every Shawn customer, provided links to his Yelp page and Google profile, and asked them to leave a review for him.
We send it out a week or so after each client has ended their association. We get a 30% response rate on our MailChimp emails, so they generate more business for Sean.
Each of these reviews creates backlinks. Collectively, this is a huge boost to his overall improvement.
Note that we have not included a social media campaign in our marketing plan. We don’t really have the ability to manage this so it doesn’t make sense at this point.
We’ll start doing Google ads, or pay-per-click, this month. This type of ad will work for small storage on wheels. We can define our demographics and geographic location and build backlinks. We want the Sean brand to gain wider recognition across the Northern Bay Area.
For those who are moving or need temporary storage
Call Sean and he’ll move one of his boxes to your house. Move your items to your storage container according to your time frame.
When you’re ready to move, Shawn will take the container and move it to the new location. For those who need temporary storage, Shawn drops it from the box and leaves it on the client’s property. When it’s no longer needed, Shaun picks up the box. There is one monthly rental fee and a delivery / pick-up fee depending on the location.
A new website, consistent follow-up connections, and pay-per-click – together, it’s clear that they help generate new revenue. Let’s schedule a call to talk about your business and your marketing plan.
