How to check your internet speed from Google Home

There are many great ways to check and test your internet speeds. Maybe you’re trying to figure out the download and upload speeds of your internet connection to make sure your network is working properly, or maybe you just want to show your friends how fast your internet is for some reason. One great way to check your speeds, if you like, is to use Google. Of course, there are other options as well. Here’s how.

Get online

Before you can check your internet speed, you need to make sure that you are actually connected to an active network. Locate the SSID you want (assuming you’re using a wireless connection, and you probably are), log in and make sure you have a secure connection. You can head over to Google.com to double-check that your internet connection is working.

Now that you’re already on the Google homepage, simply search for “speed test”. Of course, there will be search results for online options to check your speed like Speedtest by Ookla, but on top of that will be Google’s own speed test offer.

To check your internet speed, tap Run a speed test. In real time, you can watch the web applet check your ping, download and upload speeds. After the test is complete, you can see the results, the server location that was used in the speed test, a bit of information about your network speed including what you should be able to do (like streaming HD videos) and the ability to retake the test.

NB: According to many readers outside the US, this feature may not be available in all regions. At this time, we know for sure that it does not work in Nicaragua and Portugal.

Check the Internet with Ookla’s Speedtest

If you want two additional options for server location and connection number, Ookla Speedtest might be the right choice for you to check your internet speed. Ookla usually has a few server locations available to you, which makes it easy to choose the closest or, if you feel inclined, a different one.

Simply head over to speedtest.net. Your settings will be automatically chosen based on your location when you open the website. go and Click the big GO button. Ookla will connect you to the server and immediately start measuring your internet speed.

When finished, your results will be displayed at the top of the screen. Ookla also displays a graph of your internet connection while the test runs. This gives you an easy way to visualize your speed as necessary.

Using Netflix’s Fast to test the Internet

It may come as a surprise that Netflix runs an internet speed test website called Fast. Simply head over to fast.com. Ad-free and as simple as possible. Once you open the website, your speed is instantly calculated and a small pause button will appear on the right if you want to stop it.

You can click Show More Information to check your upload speed, server location, and settings. Though, this goes against the purpose of the website, which is to keep things easy.

All of these are great options for users, and each has its own advantages. Google’s speed test is probably the easiest test to access and complete. Ookla’s speed test is a close second because it has quite a few adjustable options that anyone can tinker with.
