How to broadcast live on Facebook

If you are a Facebook user, you can go live and start video streaming to connect with your audience in real time. You can do this from your desktop and mobile device, and we will show you how to do it.

Before you go live, you can customize your broadcast settings so your session can be customized. We’ll also cover this in the guide below.

Go straight to Facebook from your desktop

If you’re on a desktop computer, use the Facebook website in your web browser to start your live broadcast. Facebook recommends Google Chrome, but the feature works in other browsers as well.

To get started, launch your favorite web browser and open Facebook. Log in to your account if you haven’t already.

At the top of the news feed, below the new post box, click Live Video.

Facebook will take you to the Create Live Video page. On the right of the page, select “Live Broadcast”.

On the left sidebar, select the “Connect Video Source” option. You will now decide which tool to use for the live broadcast.

In the right pane, to use the webcam directly in the broadcast, choose the “Webcam” option. If you want to use a streaming application like OBS, select the “Streaming Software” option. We’ll go with the previous option.

Scroll down the page to the “Camera Controls” section. Here, choose the webcam and microphone you wish to use. The Video section will allow you to preview your current video.

On the far left of the screen, in the Post Details section, enter a name and description for the live broadcast.

Now before going live, take a look at the various customization options available in the left sidebar. Here, you can choose who can watch the live broadcast, whether you want to post about the broadcast on your timeline, and more.

When you’ve configured the options, and you’re ready to start streaming, click the “Go Live” button in the lower left corner.

Facebook will display a countdown timer and you will then go live. You can now use various options on the screen to interact with your audience.

When you want to end the live broadcast, in the bottom left corner of Facebook, click End Live Video. Then choose Finish at the prompt.

Facebook will display a “Quick Actions” menu that will allow you to perform an action on your live video recording. Select an option if you wish.

Start live broadcasting on Facebook from mobile

To go live from your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, use the official Facebook app.

Start the Facebook app on your phone. At the top of the news feed, tap the “Live” option.

If you haven’t already, give the media permission to the Facebook app so that it can use the phone’s microphone and camera. You will then see a camera preview in the app.

Before you go live, you may want to change some settings. At the top of the page, click on your name. Next, on the “Profile and Audience” page that opens, select who you want to allow to view the broadcast. You can also choose to send notifications about broadcasts to some of your friends and followers from this page.

Then go back to the main screen by tapping on the left arrow icon at the top.

On the main screen, at the top, you have three icons. The first icon (the magic wand) allows you to add some cool effects to your live video. The second icon (lightning flash) turns on your phone’s flashlight to improve the brightness. The third camera (the camera with rotating arrows) allows you to switch between the back and front camera of your phone.

At the bottom of the page, you can optionally add a description of the broadcast. Then, you can invite people to go with you directly by clicking on the person icon. More options can be revealed by selecting the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines).

Finally, when you are ready to go live, click on the “Go Live” button.

Facebook will go live on the platform, and you will see a “Live” icon in the top left corner. You are now free to communicate with your audience however you want.

To end the live broadcast, click “End” in the lower right corner of the app.

Once the video is finished, you can optionally publish it to your timeline by clicking Publish Now. Or you can delete the video by clicking on the trash can icon.
