Apple today shared the trailer for the upcoming “Make or Break” documentary about surfing, set to premiere on Friday, April 29. “Make or Break” follows the world’s best surfers as they battle for the world title.
Make or Break provides behind-the-scenes access and a deep dive into the aspirations, challenges, accomplishments, and personal lives of surfers vying to stay in the 2021 men’s and women’s CT class, and takes viewers on a journey to amazing surfing locations around the world. The series follows the 2021 competition, as it navigates the league’s response to the global pandemic, while exploring dynamic surf culture alongside timely issues, including diversity, mental health and the physical impact of the sport.
The series follows the men’s and women’s 2021 World Surf League Championship Tour, with the first episode following a competition at the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. The Banzai Pipeline and other surfing sites used in championship events are extremely dangerous, with the Pipeline being specifically known for some of the deadliest waves in the world which have resulted in many surfer deaths.
Other venues highlighted on the championship tour of this series include Santa Cruz, California; New South Wales, Australia; Babara, Tahiti; Taghazout Bay, Morocco; Bali, Indonesia; Tuamotos, French Polynesia; Netanya, Israel; and more.
The documentary will feature some of the world’s top ranking surfers, including 11-time world champion Kelly Slater, seven-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, three-time world champion Gabriel Medina, two-time world champion Tyler Wright, 2019 world champion and Olympic gold medalist Italo Ferreira. and 2021 Olympics Tatiana Weston Webb.
