Bluebonnet Leather iPhone Card Holder Case Review: The Whole Grain Experience

As the third product I’ve tried from Bluebonnet, the leather card case lives up to the high standard I’ve come to expect from my small Texas studio. Bluebonnet designs beautifully crafted leather accessories for Apple products. Its product designers travel the world sourcing the materials and their skins come from some of the best tanneries in Europe and Mexico. You can tell just by touching the skin and smelling it that these are the good things.

The Card Holder acts as a simple wallet case with two slots that serve to hold cards, IDs or cash. It can hold two cards and some cash at one time. There’s also a finger loop (in Bluebonnet’s signature ceramic blue shade) to help you keep the bag close at hand, and of course to improve selfie angles. At first glance, it is an excellently made and great looking case. After several weeks of use, here are my initial impressions of the Bluebonnet leather card case:

Bluebonnet operates out of a small studio in Austin, Texas, and the brand remains relatively exclusive. Now you can only buy its technical accessories on the official Bluebonnet website. This leather card case goes for $68 and is available in two leather shades. If it goes on sale, we’ll make sure to include it in the iMore Deals section.

From the moment you take this bag out of the box, you can appreciate the look and feel of the luxurious leather. It is buttery smooth with a warm sienna color. The letter “B” is printed on the box in a style reminiscent of farmhouse brands and even the leather smells of luxury. The inside of the case is lined with silky microfiber to protect the glass surfaces of your iPhone and the buttons are covered in shiny copper steel. The bumper around the camera is also surrounded by this metallic sheen. All of this combine to create an eye-catching and elegant structure.

From the moment you take this bag out of the box, you can appreciate the look and feel of the luxurious leather.

The case is well made and sturdy, with two visible pockets that keep cards and cash in place on the case back panel. I haven’t had any issues with cards that slip or shift during use. Due to the simple and slim design, the case looks absolutely beautiful without any cards at all. You can carry it as a normal case when you don’t need to use the card slots. A cotton finger loop adds to the functionality of the case, helping you to grip and text with one hand and hold iPhone at the perfect angle for taking a selfie. I enjoy the bright blue shade of the ring, which is Bluebonnet’s trademark color.

Even after a few weeks of use, the skin begins to form a slight patina. I can see that it will thrive in my individual skin story over time, reflecting my usage habits. This is the beauty of natural skin. As for protection, the raised bezels around the screen and camera do their job so far. After a few rises and falls, your iPhone 12 Pro Max remains protected and safe inside this case. Finally, despite its smooth leather body and protective elements, this is one of the thinnest card cases I’ve seen. It is slim and elegant as per the design.

Bluebonnet leather card holder: Can I get that in coral?

There’s not much to complain about about the Bluebonnet leather card case. Construction, materials and functionality all in one point. Since I love to customize my products, I think it would be a good idea for Bluebonnet to offer the cotton finger ring in different colors. Yes, I know Bluebonnet is the brand’s signature color, but this ring would definitely look like in coral, that’s all I have to say.

It would also be nice if the case offered MagSafe compatibility because this is a feature I use on a daily basis, but I realize it would be difficult to pull off with a card wallet built into the back. I heard Bluebonnet is working on a new line of cases that include MagSafe, so I look forward to seeing what the brand comes up with. If this case had MagSafe, it would be almost perfect.

While there are plenty of card cases you can buy for your iPhone 12 Pro Max, only a few are made of premium genuine leather. One similar example is the Bullstrap Portfolio iPhone case, also made by a small American company. This card features a similar two-card design, made from full grain leather. The Bullstrap case looks similar in quality and craftsmanship as the Bluebonnet case, although it does not include a finger ring. It’s also a bit more expensive than Bluebonnet at $79, so choosing between the two will depend on your budget.

For anyone who appreciates the luxurious look and feel of genuine leather, this bag is a beautiful example of quality and craftsmanship. The full-grain leather is smooth, the microfiber lining is silky smooth, and the stretchy cotton grommet is a fun blue surreal pop. Then there are the metallic brass-colored details, like the clickable steel button covers. To top it off, the card slots on the back are nice and snug, which keeps cards and cash safe, although they look good when empty too. All of this culminates in a beautiful leather case that gets better with time.
