Get unlimited AT&T service for $50 a month

AT&T introduces a new Value Plus plan that money guru Clark Howard is delighted with.

AT&T, which is usually anything but a discount program, is offering a new cell phone plan for individuals that costs $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and data on 5G. It’s a big deal!”

Herein lies the problem: This plan is only available for one service line. If you have two lines, you can open two separate accounts and get this plan for both lines. However, if you have three or more lines, AT&T’s Unlimited Starter plan is the best deal at $45 per month per line.

Here’s what you’ll get with the Value Plus plan:

  • Unlimited calls, texts, and data in the US, Mexico, and Canada
  • Unlimited text messages from the US to more than 200 countries
  • 5G access (if you have a 5G compatible device)
  • Standard video stream
  • AT&T ActiveArmorSM security including blocking spam and fraud

“It’s a really simplified plan,” says Clark Howard, “but you’ll have a $50 per month plan and not have to worry about your bill increasing over time. It’s a set rate.”

AT&T’s Value Plus plan is available to new and existing AT&T customers. You can visit the AT&T website and click Other Plans to get started. If you already have an AT&T account, you can find instructions for switching to an AT&T Value Plus plan here.

More ways to save on unlimited AT&T service

If you want unlimited service on a single line from AT&T, There is only one way to get a cheaper plan directly from the carrier: AT&T Prepaid.

AT&T Prepaid offers an unlimited plan that includes the same benefits as AT&T’s Value Plus plan. You’ll get unlimited calls, texts, and data in the US, Mexico, and Canada as well as 5G access. The prepaid plan costs $50 on AT&T’s website, but you can get it for $45 per month if you Activate your line at Walmart.

AT&T Prepaid also offers limited monthly data plans including 15 GB for $40 and 5 GB for $30. Both plans also qualify for a $5 per month discount when you activate your service at Walmart.

AT&T’s other unlimited postpaid plans start at $65 per month for a single line with the Unlimited Starter plan. This package is a better deal than Value Plus only if you have three or more lines. In three lines, the Unlimited Starter plan drops to $45 per month per line. Discounts last up to $30 per month per line with five or more lines.

Another way to get cheap and unlimited access to the AT&T network is to choose an AT&T MVNO:

AT&T MVNO’s cheapest unlimited total option is Boost Mobile’s annual plan. It costs $300 up front and includes unlimited calls, texts, and data for 12 months. This works out to be $25 per month per line. Unlike AT&T’s Value Plus or AT&T Prepaid plan, Boost Mobile also includes 12GB of mobile hotspot per month.

However, If you’re looking for the cheapest one-line monthly phone plan with access to the AT&T network, you can’t beat AT&T Prepaid or AT&T Value Plus.
